2nd National Conference on Managing Travel for Planned Special Events, Newport Beach, CA - November 2006
Participating Agencies: Virginia DOT
At the time of the peer-to-peer exchange, operations engineers at VDOT’s Northern Region Operations SMART Traffic Center were using numerous integrated ITS components and several stand-alone subsystems to manage the arterial and freeway transportation networks in Northern Virginia. The Advanced Interactive Traffic Visualization System (AITVS), a high-performance critical visualization technique developed at Virginia Tech, had the ability to be incorporated into daily and special event operations to explore real-time and historical loop-detector data using a web browser. The visit allowed the VDOT team to present the findings of a case study that described how the AITVS had been used to manage traffic during planned special events.
