This is the first of two ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) webinars focusing on topics of interest to University Transportation Centers.
The second webinar, Leveraging Big Data for Transportation Improvement: Gaps and Opportunities, took place on May 17, 2012.

The U.S. Department of Transportation ITS Joint Program Office would like to invite members of the University Transportation Center community to share insights and perspectives on current and future transportation trends and opportunities. Please join us for the following webinar to participate in discussions about existing connected vehicle research programs and share your perspective on the implications and uses of the abundance of data available to travelers and state and local governments.

Background

At the core of the Federal ITS research program is connected vehicle research - a multimodal initiative that aims to enable safe, interoperable, networked wireless communications among vehicles, the infrastructure, and passengers' personal communications devices. This research leverages the potentially transformative capabilities of wireless technology to make surface transportation safer, smarter and greener.

Target Audience

Member of University Transportation Centers

Learning Objectives

While the connected vehicle program is a comprehensive suite of research initiatives, it cannot pursue all of the research associated with connected vehicles. This presentation will describe some of the gaps associated with data environments, mobility, applications and other challenges - with the objective of sharing ideas and strategies to fill these gaps.
